Schools

There are four schools in Auckland, New Zealand: ACG Senior College, ACG Parnell College, ACG Strathallan and ACG Sunderland. There are also three ESL based schools within Auckland: ACG English School, ACG Norton College, ACG New Zealand International College. ACG is also an education exporter[1] and has set up ACG International School Vietnam, and ACG International School Jakarta.

History

ACG was founded in 1994 by Dawn Jones OBE MA DipEd DipTchg (ex-Diocesan) and Sir John Graham CBE MA DipTchg (ex-Auckland Grammar School), both well-known New-Zealand educationalists.[2] They started by developing the idea of a senior school for Auckland (ACG Senior College). The idea was backed by financial advisers, including Danny Chan[3] and Ian King, who contributed to the education business development. All the founders had worked in education at school or university level.

In 1995, ACG Senior College and ACG New Zealand International College were opened. After these two openings, the impetus was provided for the founding of a specialist school for a younger age group and ACG Parnell College (formerly ACG Junior College), opened in 1998. In 2001, ACG Strathallan was established in Karaka. This facility provides education through the Strathallan Infant Preschool Centre (for infants and children from the age of three months to two years), Strathallan Preschool (ages two to five), Strathallan School (Years 1 to 6) and Strathallan College (Years 7 to 13). ACG International Schools were opened in Jakarta in 2005 and in Ho Chi Minh in 2007.

Education contributions

ACG has also provided expertise for other educational institutes. For example Auckland University of Technology approached ACG to teach its foundation studies programme. ACG Norton College was established in 2003. In 2006, ACG took a five year contract in Oman to write the first year programmes of a new state university in multiple locations. ACG New Zealand International College has been endorsed by The University of Auckland, which uses the school's approach for its Foundation Studies Certificate which has since seen thousands of international students gain entry in to New Zealand universities.
